I honestly think the closest we get to his actual personality (based on Nate’s investigations and the few memories we see) comes from the visions Claire & Ruth have of him. Alternatively, David’s fears of his father’s judgement play out but we also get glimpses of the caring, albeit distant, parent he grew up and lived with. Like, for instance, Nate’s version of his father almost leans to the malicious at times because, of the three kids, he really knew next to nothing about him except how scared he was of his dad’s job (and how much he fears becoming his father).
